The HRD Ministry is planning to launch DTH channels which would enable students to watch live telecast of lectures from various top institutions, including IITs.
For this, the HRD ministry is collaborating with the Department of Space and many institutions which will provide lessons and content that will be shown on these channels.
“The government is focusing on using space technology to expand the reach of high quality education. Through the 32 DTH channels the aim is to ensure that live classrooms can be transmitted from ten ‘Teaching Ends’ out of which six will be IITs located in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Guwahati,” a senior official said, as reported in Indian Express.
Other institutions participating in this venture are being finalized.
The Ministry is working to ensure that these channels are fictional in a couple of months.
All that students need to view these channels is a Set Top Box.
At a meeting last month, a committee chaired by Director, IIT Gandhinagar, worked out the details of the project. It has been recommended that the channels be operated by August this year.
Isn’t it great that our government is taking crucial steps in developing the needed technology to promote high education! It will be a sigh of relief for those who cannot pay the hefty fees of coaching centers. We appreciate the move and we are sure you do too.
