Jawaharlal Nehru University, one of the top universities in the country has received the Visitor’s Award for the best university from the President Pranab Mukherjee. These awards were initiated in 2014 to promote healthy competition among the central universities of the country.
The winners receive one lakh rupees cash along with the citation as a part of this award. JNU which has been in the limelight for over a year now for alleged anti-national activities and massive seat cuts in few courses has won the award for best varsity despite all this.
As a part of ‘festival of innovations’ President Pranab Mukherjee presented the citation and trophy to Vice-Chancellor Jagadesh Kumar on March 6. Mr. Mukherjee said that JNU deserved the award due to its unrelenting pursuit of academic excellence.
JNU showed remarkable performance on all key parameters namely quality of students and faculty, training of faculty, citations, publications, research project, foreign collaborations, seminars, and innovation exhibition. The President urged the premier institution to keep up the ‘good work’.
A book containing memoirs of 18 former Vice-Chancellors was released at the event to provide precious insight to current leaders. JNU, already a highly decorated varsity seems to be getting only better day by day.
We are glad to see some good news for JNU after a series of problems and we hope that the hardships get over soon.
