J R PhilemonRaja, a PhD student at the Jawaharlal Nehru University was found dead in his hostel room no. 171 on Tuesday night reportedly, after a suspicious foul smell caught the attention of students in neighboring rooms.
According to police reports the student had locked himself up in his hostel room from the past 3 days and was unresponsive. But after neighboring students reported a foul smell emanating from his room to hostel security, they immediately alerted the cops who later found the decomposed body.
It’s hard to say anything from preliminary investigations but the possibility of a suicide cannot be ruled out. The body has been sent for autopsy at AIIMS after which the cause of death can be ascertained. Officers who reached the hostel after the incident say that the body was decomposed beyond recognition.
The student’s family has been informed of the incident through the Delhi Police North East Cell.
But that’s not all for JNU administration’s problems as another student Najeeb Ahmad went missing more than a week ago and had not been located yet.
Police say that the Manipuri student pursuing PhD in west Asia studies, had joined the university a year ago and was not showing any signs of unusual behaviour according to fellow students but it’s hard to say anything from initial reports.
All these incidents have seriously affected one of the most prestigious institution’s image and the increased cases of suicides and other activities are quite alarming.
We hope that the reason comes out and everything gets back to normal soon.
