Not very long ago, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) released it’s ‘India’s ranking report 2016’ which enumerates the top universities and colleges.

Here, we bring you the top 10 universities of India that are sweepingly the best.

 1. Indian Institute Of Science (IISc)

 

Indian Institute of science, situated in Bengaluru and locally known as ‘’Tata Institute’’ is India’s finest institute for science and technology.

With a formidable world wide 18th rank, this institution has 40 departments which offer courses like M.sc. in Chemical Engineering, M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering, Ph.D. in Biochemistry, M.E. in Signal Processing and a load of other courses in Science and Technology.Top 10 Universities of India 2016

The university campus has 14 hostel accommodations, a Library, 6 cafeterias and a multi cuisine restaurant. The university promotes sports and provides the students with a football ground, a Cricket ground and the facility of Gym.

Students seeking admission need to qualify national level exams like AIPMT, JEE (mains and advanced), JAM, KVPY. Based on the performance in the competitive exams, interviews are held for final selection.


2. Institute Of Chemical Technology (ICT)

              

Situated in the city of dreams, Mumbai, this institute focuses on training and research in various branches of Chemical Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy. The institute ranks 4th globally and is in collaboration with all the enticing industries such as Coca-Cola, Mitsubishi, Tata Steel etc.

3. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)

A written entrance exam is held annually in the 3rd week of May at various centers and barring a few courses, for most of the courses a viva voice examination is conducted.


 4. University Of Hyderabad (UOH)

              

The University of Hyderabad is primarily a Post Graduate university.

It has consistently been ranked amongst the top 10 universities in India and its Department of English is among the top 250 along with its Department of Chemistry falling among the top 400 across the world.

It has been awarded a grade of 3.72 by NAAC. The perks of studying in UOH includes direct fellowships from various government agencies. Offered degrees include M.Sc.,M.A.,M.Tech,Ph.D. in various disciplines. It has established schools of Physics, Life Sciences, Humanities as well.

 5. Tezpur University

                   

The university is situated in the eastern lands of the country, in Assam. This university has developed 21 departments and 4 schools of studies which include School of Science, School of Management Studies, School of Engineering and School of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Its Department of Electronics offers a unique interdisciplinary course of Masters in Bioelectronics. It offers a wide range of courses such Mass Communication, B.Ed etc. and certificate courses in various languages.

Tezpur University is surrounded by many historic and tourist places. Which gives it an edge over other universities. It hosts annual cultural and technical fests to hone the students’ artistic and scientific skills.

Admission seeking students require to go through TUEE which is a written examination conducted annually.


6. University Of Delhi (DU)

The University Of Delhi is locally known as Delhi University (DU). The university comprises of 77 colleges with 16 faculties and 86 departments.

The Departments of Geology, Zoology, Sociology, History and Chemistry have been awarded the status of Centers of advanced studies. Delhi University is one among the universities with highest publication count in India.

7. Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

 

Situated near the holy banks of Ganges, Banaras Hindu University marks a niche and stands at 142nd position among the top 300 universities in Asia.

Nurturing the minds of students from over 34 nations, the student enrollment exceeds 30,000. It hosts 6 institutes, 14 faculties with more than 132 departments.

Several of its colleges, including engineering (IIT-BHU), management (FMS-BHU), science, linguistics, journalism & mass communication, performing arts, law, agriculture (IAS-BHU), medicine (IMS-BHU) are ranked among the best.

It conducts national level entrance test for various UG and PG courses however, admissions to B.Tech., B.Pharm., M.Pharm are through JEE and GATES.


8. Indian Institute Of Space Science And Technology (IIST)

 

 This government aided university is one its kind as it is the only university in India which aims solely for the study and research of outer space.

9. Birla Institute of Science And Technology (BITS)

Though being a private institution it stands proud as the 9th best of college of India.

It is considered as the best private engineering institute. The institute has been rated a 5 star and accredited by a CGPA of 3.71 by NAAC.

BITS is focused on undergraduate education. Courses are offered in Engineering, Sciences and its management. Programs include Masters in Engineering, Pharmacy, Public Health and Business administration. The UG courses include B.E. in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science etc.

BITS has campuses in Goa, Pilani, Hyderabad and Dubai. Like any other institution it hosts a number of cultural events every year.

10. Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

It’s a globally recognized university which began its course far back in time.

With 7 constituent colleges, 13 faculties it offers a wide variety of courses. It has been awarded a grade of 3.35/4 by NAAC and many of its departments are ranked among the best.

Its Law program is one of the most sought after program and has retained its 6th rank third time in a row. Besides the law faculty, its medical and engineering colleges are always topping the lists.

The Maulana Azad Library which is the central library is Asia’s second largest. To add to the central library there are over 100 departmental and college libraries.

The university holds entrance exams for admissions in various courses.
